Although images from MSRA-1000 have a large variety in their content, background structures are primarily simple and smooth. To represent the situations that natural images generally fall into, we extend our Complex Scene Saliency Dataset (CSSD) in a larger dataset (ECSSD) with 1000 images, which includes many semantically meaningful but structurally complex images for evaluation. The images are acquired from the internet and 5 helpers were asked to produce the ground truth masks. Several examples with their corresponding masks are shown above.

As the first computer science department in Hong Kong, The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong launched its undergraduate major programme in 1978 and its postgraduate programme in 1982. CSE department currently hosts 30 faculty members, including one Turing Award recipient and five ACM Fellows, and a student body of 900 students. There are 600 undergraduate students, 140 MSc students, and 160 full-time postgraduate research students in CSE department, carrying out learning and research activities in a very co-operative and friendly environment. Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2004 as an assistant professor, and was promoted to associated professor and professor in 2010 and 2015 respectively. He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science jointly from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Microsoft Research in 2004. From March 2003 to August 2004, he was a visiting scholar at Microsoft. He conducted collaborative research at Adobe Research in 2007.
